R.I.P Black King: Nipsey Hussle

R.I.P Nipsey Hussle

I am struggling writing this at the moment. I feel that I don't have the correct words or feelings to even create a piece like this. My heart and my head is heavy with the passing of a black culture leader and inspiration, Nipsey Hussle. My heart dropped learning the news of his untimely passing. I was and still am in shock and disbelief. I am hurt, sad, frustrated, confused, and overall mad. I am mad that this black man, a positive and unproblematic black man who preached and (most importantly) lived by the advancement of his community, people, and culture had to so tragically die in the same community he dedicated his life to uplift and change for the greater good.

If I am honest, I have heard some Nipsey Hussle music, but I wouldn't be able to name one song he's created. I couldn't even recite a lyric of his. When I reflected upon his death, I felt ashamed that I was so sadden that he wasn't here any longer but didn't really know any of his music. I questioned why I was crying. I questioned why my heart was hurting. I questioned why I was effected at all. But then I realized, I may not have known his songs or lyrics, but I knew his impact. I knew of what he believed in (I learned even more after his death) and I knew what he stood for. That is why I am hurting. Obviously, losing a Black King is difficult enough. But losing a Black King who used his fame and success to help black people progress in health, wealth, love, and unity as a culture hit much harder.

R.I.P Nipsey Hussle

Nipsey Hussle was so much more than music. Nipsey used his music to inspire, uplift, and educate! He entered Hip-Hop with the plan to invest and give back to his community! Since then, he used his platform to inform the black community of how to generate wealth on our own merit, give back to our communities, and how important black ownership is. Nipsey Hussle's impact will live on forever!

It is never too late to continue the race that was started by the black leaders in the community. If you're like myself, then this is the time to finally stand up and use your dreams and goals to positively impact and inspire the community and the culture. There is no time to waste. Everyday should be dedicated to the future of our people. Use the time and impact we currently have on the world and our children to build up and protect the change we desperately need to create.

Nipsey, you are and will forever be missed! I promise to do my part to continue the legacy that you (and the millions upon millions of black leaders who gave their life) built for the people, the community, the culture, and our future! Thank You Nipsey! Rest In Peace!
